2020-08-14 PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY Dear potential HLPW-4 participant, · Like our last workshop (HiLiftPW-3), this workshop will be held concurrently with the Geometry and Mesh Generation Workshop (GMGW-3). Workshop participants will be able to register for either workshop and attend sessions for both. · These workshops will be conducted differently than in the past. This time, they will include collaborative efforts during the months leading up to the workshops to answer key questions of importance to both the mesh generation and high lift aerodynamics communities. These collaborative efforts will be accomplished through "Technology Focus Groups" (TFGs). Results of these efforts will be presented in a combination of individual and joint presentations. · When participating in the workshops, you can choose to be either an active participant or an observer. · We are asking all active participants to join at least one TFG, in order to be engaged in workshop-related collaborative research activities during the 6-8 months prior to the workshops. The TFGs cover specific areas of interest that span both workshops. These areas are: o Geometry Modeling and Preparation for Meshing o Fixed Grid RANS (meshing and CFD) o Mesh Adaptation RANS (meshing and CFD) o High Order RANS (meshing and CFD) o Hybrid RANS/LES (meshing and CFD) o Wall Modeled LES and Lattice-Boltzmann (meshing and CFD) · If you do not choose (or are unable) to be member of any TFG, then you may still perform research on your own and attend the workshops as an observer, but your work will not be shown or represented at the workshops. Observers need do nothing at this time. · Joining a TFG implies active engagement. If in doubt, join a TFG; it will be possible to opt out later if you are unable to remain actively engaged. · To sign up for a TFG, please fill out the form located at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GMGW3-HLPW4-Intent no later than September 10, 2020. If you are unable to access the survey, then please email us and tell us which TFG or TFGs you are interested in joining. By doing this, you are giving your permission for TFG coordinators to contact you in regards to your participation. Stay tuned for information regarding geometry, test case definitions, and workshop grid availability.
