The Wall Modeled Large Eddy Simulations (WMLES) Technology Focus Group (TFG) works with LES combined with wall modeling, allowing for the use of grids with minimum y+ wall-normal spacing of order 100 rather than order 1. This "coarsening" in the wall normal direction has 2 advantages: a) The reduced number of wall-normal solution points can be more efficiently redistributed in the tangential (i.e. spanwise and streamwise) directions which can be very beneficial in complex flows involving separation; and b) it allows for maintaining an overall good grid quality in terms of aspect ratios, which is desirable for LES closures. Furthermore, having nearly-isotropic near-wall cells allows for utilization of minimally dissipative discretizations. The WMLES TFG's goal is to achieve more accurate time-averaged results than non-scale-resolving methods like RANS, particularly for high-lift flows involving separation.

The following lists the active membership for this Technology Focus Group (TFG). The assigned Participant ID (PID) numbers are given in red. (The PIDs may not be contiguous or in numerical order, as teams may drop out or be added.) Please contact hiliftpw@gmail.com if you have a correction.
